Round Rock in one paragraph
A city of 142,053 people (December 2025) immediately north of Austin, in Williamson County — the 10th fastest-growing county in the United States, with roughly 752,800 residents. Dell is headquartered here at 1 Dell Way. It is named after an actual anvil-shaped rock still sitting in Brushy Creek, where Chisholm Trail herds crossed from 1867 to 1884. It holds America’s largest indoor water park, a Triple-A ballpark, a park of roughly 650 acres, and a bakery from 1926 that is the most-searched thing in the city.
The four things that define Round Rock
1. Round Rock Donuts, 106 W. Liberty Avenue. Open since 1926 as Lone Star Bakery. The colour comes from fresh eggs; the Texas-sized donut fills its own box; and by search volume it beats the city’s own name. Go early — it sells out, as it has for a century.
2. Kalahari Resorts, 3001 Kalahari Boulevard. Opened 12 November 2020 with America’s largest indoor water park — 223,000 square feet, 20 pools, 30 waterslides, on a 350-acre site.
3. Old Settlers Park, 3300 East Palm Valley Boulevard. Roughly 650 acres: 25 ball diamonds, disc golf, cricket, a lake, trails, an off-leash dog area and the Rock’N River water park — mid-way through a $151 million upgrade from a $230 million bond passed in 2023.
4. Dell Diamond, 3400 East Palm Valley Boulevard. Opened 2000, capacity 11,631 plus grass berm, home of the Round Rock Express — the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers.

Most cities named after a landmark lost the landmark. The Round Rock is still in Brushy Creek near Chisholm Trail Street — the low-water crossing that made this spot usable.
A settlement formed here in 1851. The post office, originally “Brushy Creek”, was renamed Round Rock in 1854 at the urging of postmaster Thomas C. Oatts. The first Williamson County cattle drive left in 1867 — 35,000 head north to Abilene, Kansas — crossing here and continuing up the main street of Old Town.

Five school districts serve Round Rock — Round Rock ISD, Leander ISD, Pflugerville ISD, Hutto ISD and Georgetown ISD. Boundaries follow neither city nor county lines. Verify the exact address.
Texas has no state income tax, but Round Rock property tax is high — an effective rate near 1.45% against a national median of 1.02%, and a median bill around $6,226. That is the trade, and it does not suit everyone.
The summer is the real constraint. June to September, outdoor activity between late morning and late afternoon does not work here. Residents shift to early mornings and evenings. Nobody warns newcomers clearly enough.
