★ It is the only place in New Jersey with year-round ferry service to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, operated by Statue City Cruises. That fact alone reframes the park – you are not looking at the Statue from a distance, you are at a departure point for it.

Beyond the ferries: a two-mile promenade with uninterrupted New York skyline views, miles of trails, a Nature Center, and the historic rail terminal – the building where generations of immigrants processed at Ellis Island caught trains into the rest of America. That last detail is what makes the park more than scenery.

Liberty Science Center

Inside Liberty State Park, and substantial: a 300,000-square-foot centre housing ★ the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere, 12 exhibition halls, a live animal collection spanning 110 species, giant aquariums and a 3D theatre.
